No "No No" Tonight

Tony Gwyn Jr. just singled to left field in the top of the 7th, breaking up Tim Lincecums chance of the No-hitter. He still has a consecutive inning scoreless streak of 29 currently which is very impressive, stay tuned....

No No

Quick Hits: Tim Lincecum is currently taking a no hitter in San Fransisco into the top of the 7th inning, stay tuned for updates...

Caveat Lector

This post starts off on a sad note. Today was the final day fans, friends, and family members
alike were able to pay there final respects to Steve McNair. McNair was murdered by an acquaintance early Saturday morning at his Nashville apartment. There was a line stretching as far as the eye could see outside Mt. Zion church early thursday morning, where McNair has been attending services since he moved to Nashville in 1997. Fans will remember Steve as a great quarterback, and friends and family will remember him as a man who performed well on the field, and was a giving, caring man off the field. You will be missed Steve, by all of us.

On a lighter note, lets move on to baseball. Just one note here, Shane Victorino and Brandon Inge were chosen by the fans as the last two players to be voted into the 2009 MLB All-Star game. Congratulations to Shane and Brandon and good luck into the All-Star Game. Hopefully we finish this one. (See 2002 All-Star Game, 2-2 tie, 11 innings)

Moving onto the NHL.......and KHL

Detroit Red Wing forward Jiri Hudler has decided to bolt to Russia to play in the KHL for the Dynamo. Hudler signed a 2 year deal believed to be worth between 3 and 5 million dollars a year. This is a route many players have chosen mainily becasue of the fact that the money they make is untaxed and they clear every penny of the contract. This move could mean trouble for the Red Wings. This offseason they have lost a 50 goal scorer in Hossa, a speedy scoring winger in Hudler, and a proven defensemen in Chelios. Unless Detroit makes a move to aquire someone, anyone this offseason, dont expect them to win the division next year. They are in a tough divison with young talent. Nashville has always given the Wings trouble, and St. Louis is a very young talented team that works a power play with 5 forwards. Not to mention the Chicago Blackhawks who pushed the the Wings to an overtime in a fifth game of the Western Conference Finals. The Hawks are loaded with talent and managed to grab Hossa and sign him to a 12 year contract. Look for Blackhawks/Penguins to be a great rival for many, many years.

It Pays to be # 1
Today, the Los Angeles Clippers signed there number 1 overall pick, Blake Griffin. The deal is believed to be for 6 years, and could top 70 million dollars with incentives. This is a perfect time to show my disgust with the NFL and NBA. When you draft someone #1, no doubt, they are good. They are NOT worth 70 million dollars when you dont know how they will perform in the big leagues. Maybe both of your leagues should take a look at the NHL and MLB. The NHL signs players to entry-level contracts, worth an average of 800,00 dollars, and if they do good, they cash in. The MLB does the same with there players in the minors, until they are ready. With an economy in recession, and people struggling to get by, it's time for the big spending on unproven players to stop.

Say It Aint So, Joe

Not much time to talk about this one as I am heading out. I just wanted to make the official announcement on the ReDo blog that a legend has retired from the game of Hockey today. As it was reported days ago, but not confirmed, Joe Sakic has retired at the age of 40. Joe was the last original member, and Captain of the Quebec Nordiques.

The "Alegged" Dunk

Ok, lets all think about this and let it sink in. Lebron James, clearly the best NBA player in the world, has a camp for young superstars. After a day of camp was over, the players did what they always do, which is play a pick up game. No one can honestly say what happened, all we can do is believe what we are told. What we were told, is that Xavier Sophomore Jordan Crawford actually dunked over Lebron James. I know your thinking to yourself, He dunked over Lebron James? Your next thought, is I have to see this and you want the link. Well so do I. Not on youtube, or any other site on the internet will you find this video, because it no longer exist. Lebron James had Nike confiscate the tapes and destroy them. Listen Lebron, I know your "The King", and no doubt, "We are all Witnesses" but because someone dunks over you doesn't mean you cant let them live there moment up. All you have caused is a frenzy. Everytime someone plays you on national TV they will do everythng in there power to dunk over you. And you better be prepared to take a verbal beatdown in the media when this happens.

Looking Forward

A cold, chilly October night. Rain falling, temperatures in the 40's and 50's. True October weather in Pittsburgh. Yet, one of these nights, will be different. On one of these nights, something will happen that this city has not seen in over 17 years. For one more night, and one final time, a banner will be raised to the rafters of Mellon Arena. Not an MVP banner, or a Conference Champion banner, but a Stanley Cup Champion Banner. The Penguins could be an overwhelming favorite to repeat as champions. 11 of 12 forwards, and 4 0f 6 defensemen returning from the Champion team. Adding grit in forward Mike Rupp, the Pens solved a problem in being too much of a "finesse" team. Then you have Marc-Andre Fleury. Absolutely silencing all the critics by leading his team to a Championship. So ultimately the Pens are in a good position. But Pens fans, dont get too excited too fast. The Pens will have an offseason that only last 3 months. Very little rest, after playing 9 months of hockey, takes a tole on your body. Then you have the fact that every single team in the NHL is gunning for you. You are the top dog, teams want to do anything possible to knock you off, even if it means beating you in October. Best Advice to the Pens- Dont be Detroit. A Red Wings team that lost the home opener on the night where the banner got raised. A Red Wings team that lost to the Maple Leafs. Please Pittsburgh, dont be that team

Waking Up. (Pens and Bucs)

Well, that was one of the best nights sleep i have ever gotten. There is alot more to this blog then what was posted last night, this will also be a sports blog. Hearing rumors from around the league, the NHL is planning on having Tampa Bay be the home opener for the Pittsburgh Penguins. Interesting choice, as Pittsburgh native, and former Penguin, Ryan Malone, would have to be there to see his former team raise a banner. A team he could of been a part of for a small paycut. Also hearing on the baseball side, the the Giants are heavily pursuing Freddy Sanchez. Nothing more on that right now.

Last for Tonight

Lastly for tonight, if your reading this and ive made a mistake, I apologize. This situation has broken me down emotionally, and physically. I dont know what to do, and its hard on me. I know, i messed things up and its not the same. But im asking for forgiveness, a second chance. If your reading this and I did not make a mistake towards you, you can benefit from this. If you read the blog, and put two and two together, odds are good you should come up with four. Girl or guy, you should be able to see what I have done. The first way you can benefit, is by not doing what I did. You dont always have to learn from your own mistakes, learning from other peoples goes a long way. Keep your eyes open to what happens around you. If you see a friend, or a complete stranger make a mistake, first try to help them, but also study it. You will find yourself realizing what they did, which should help you to keep from doing it. Second way this will help you is by knowing what to do if your the one that ends up making the mistake. Its tough to do, to first apologize, especially if they want no part of that apology. Its even tougher to do to keep pushing that apology. You almost have to be obnoxious with it, because the other person is pushing you away, keeping you out. Dont let a brick wall keep you from running through it. My favorite quote of all time comes in handy here, and it is from "The Last Lecture" by Randy Pausch, who was a Carnegie Mellon Prefessor who gave one last lecture before he died from Pancretic cancer. The quote, "Brick walls are there for a reason. They are not there to keep us out, they are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. They are there to keep out the people who don't want it bad enough." The quote is so true. If your dealing with any kind of issue right now, run through the brick wall, and show that person, and everyone around you how bad you want it.

Lets Start Over

Ever wish there was anyway the world had a redo button? Not to go back to the beginning, but just a little bit, where you could go back, and fix that one mistake, that you know 99 out 100 times you wouldnt make? Tonight i give this advice. Think before you speak. Some feelings that you have are strong, no doubt, and you think to yourself, i have to get this off my chest to make me feel better. Try telling a person who the feelings aren't about unless your 100% sure that person is ready to here what you have to say. Think about your future with this person. It could ruin a friendship, and potentially break you down to the point of tears. All im saying here is some things are better left unsaid. Think before you speak, and be smart about what comes out of your mouth.
